Finally off the mark in Courtown ....

courtownWith no golf so far this year, there was a feeling that‘Have we just been unlucky with the weather or is this blow-in captain jinxed and a replacement needed?’ Concerns continued last Saturday in Courtown as 23 golfers headed down the first amid a flurry of snow flakes. Luckily for the Captain, all 23 arrived back safely to the warmth of the clubhouse. When the scores were tallied it was victory for the ‘tom and jerry team’(Wilko, Ryan, and ‘The Chief’ Byrne). Not to be forgotten among these rogues was our own society secretary Joe Kenny.

Coming in a close second, lead by the talented low handicapper Padraig Doyle were Mick Brennan, Jim Cullen, and last years captain Pat Mc Crea.

3rd Place on the podium was taken up by Ted Kennedy, Joe Dempsey, Mick Shortall and Bartley Turner.

In the two’s sweep, the ever talented Padraig Doyle, shared the spoils with Coollattin Vice-Captain, Ian Mc Entaggart, and your all weather Captain. The latter will lead a strong team to the marble city to take on the Nore Bar Society on 23rd March.

First Tee-time on the 23rd is 9am so it will be an early start. The golf will be followed by a meal with our hosts, and then refreshments, music and barbeque in the Nore Bar.

Society members who wish to stay over on the Saturday night and have not booked accommodation should contact Shay Clinton on 0876538155. Sheet for Kilkenny Outing is on the board in Jim’s.
