Hon Sec ‘Kenny’ Signs-off with Win on Challenging Arklow Links

arklowHe was on first name terms with all the golf course secretaries as he plotted the outings across the courses of the south-east for the last number of years. As he stood on the 10th Tee amid gales and driving rain, now all he had to do was plot his own way around the back nine. He had performed well in difficult conditions over the front nine and had already accumulated 20 points. The safety of the clubhouse seemed a long way away with many potential pitfalls lying ahead. He recalled the many GAA matches he had refereed in worse conditions and knew that this would stand to him as he knuckled down on the back nine. He had counted up points after many a game and with 14 on the back nine all he could do was wait and see if it was good enough. He had no need to worry and Joe Kenny was later declared the winner of the last major with 34 hard earned points.

The captain’s winner John Doyle continued his good form winning category 1. It was also a case of the old dog for the hard road with Peter Deegan winning category 2. The incoming captain was relegated out of 2nd place by the outgoing captain due to a better back nine, but Paudge Cullen will take some comfort from winning category 3 ahead of his big year.
As the captain signs off this year, many thanks to Joe, Tom, Chappy and the two Mick’s for their work during the year.

Good luck to Captain Paudge in the coming year.

AGM takes place on Thursday 28th November.

1st outing as usual in Ballymoney on the 27th December.
